Classic Nigerian Agege Bread Recipe

Special Equipment
Ingredients
300g flour
2 tbsp instant, fast rise yeast
8 tbsp cold butter, diced into cubes
2 tbsp sugar
200mL warm water
Directions
Step 1
Oil a loaf pan and set aside. Bloom the yeast: Add the sugar and yeast into the warm water. Leave it to rise for 5 minutes. Set it aside.
Step 2
In a separate large bowl, pour and measure the flour. Then add the chunks of butter into the flour and crumble it until the butter is pressed evenly throughout the flour. Add the yeast mixture and knead it together until it forms a dough.
Step 3
Split the dough into 6 equal parts. Roll out one of the 6 balls using a rolling pin. Roll up the dough into a tight cylinder and tuck it into the loaf pan. Repeat this process until all of the dough is in the pan. Then cover the pan with a clean dish towel and allow the dough to rise in a warm area for 2 hours or until doubled in size.
Step 4
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Once preheated, bake the bread for 20-23 minutes, or until it sounds hollow when tapped at the bottom. When the bread has finished baking, baste the bread with butter. Allow the bread to cool for about 5 minutes. Enjoy!
